In my experience as a wedding guest, being a plus size woman proves to be almost as challenging as being a plus size bride. I say this because finding suitable formal wear for the big day as a guest of the bride and groom cause anxiety in the worst way, at least for me. Shopping in person is not my favorite activity. I’m confined to small parts of the store labeled ‘plus-size’ and it only has 10 options to choose from out of the entire store. I usually focus my formal wear shopping to large department stores like Macy’s. They tend to have the larger selection of affordable formal wear which works great for a girl in her early 30’s like myself. Another benefit to department store plus size sections is that if I need to run last minute to get a dress, I have a good chance of finding one in store. I don’t suggest this be a normal practice though, you might find yourself finding the same dress as someone else’s momma at the wedding. (I’m not saying that it happened to me but let’s just say I know from experience.)
The amount of weddings young women are asked to attend are almost record breaking, and it’s best to save your coins as much as possible when looking for chic formal wear as a wedding guest. I suggest online shopping for your dresses/outfits. Although it takes a bit of planning ahead of time and requires you to adult a little more than you probably would like, it’s super beneficial; especially if you’re given ample time ahead of schedule. Online sites like Universal Standard and Society+, have great options available for plus size wedding guests. Society + even offers an entire section dedicated to being a Wedding guest which I love. See for yourself what I mean here: Society-Plus, *
Universal Standard offers a collection specifically for special occasions and they just partnered with Danielle Brooks for a new line which is fabulous honey! Check out the Special Occasions Collection here*.
If you decide on any of their items for the wedding, let me know I’d love to see the selfies! Stay Plush!
